EDITOR’S PRELUDE

The thing I love most about this job is that I’m beginning to see patterns in the ebb and flow of this music genre and music community.  I came across the news of two “too good to be true” 7 inch split records in the course of a couple of days.  I hit up Jen to work on this article with me so we could compile the news of these glorious, luscious and creative singles emerging into our psyche atmosphere.  I see a bright future for neo psyche rock, and I have the evidence to prove it.

Slowness, The Dead Mantra, Dead Leaf Echo and Dead Horse One are hardworking, respectable bands.  It’s an honor to have worked with most of these bands, and I look forward to learning of and covering their work as long as my fingers will allow it.

Dead Leaf Echo & Slowness 7 inch split for Seven Inch Revolution Box Set

New York City bred Dead Leaf Echo and San Francisco based Slowness have teamed up to release a 7 inch split for the upcoming Seven Inch Revolution Box Set from Green Fuse Records on June 26, 2012.  The 7-inch split includes Dead Leaf Echo’s track, Act of Truth, a dreamy atmospheric mix for the senses and the drone pop jam Race to Mars by Slowness.

Based in NYC, Dead Leaf Echo are a dream pop, chillwave band who are due to release their debut LP, Thought & Language mixed by John Fryer (Depeche Mode, Cocteau Twins, NIN) and with album art by Vaughn Oliver (Pixies, Bauhaus).  The track Act of Truth is a non-album cut exclusively for the box set.  Dead Leaf Echo played SXSW this year and has toured with acts like A Place to Bury Strangers and The Wedding Present.  They also played for the sold out reunion tour of Chapterhouse alongside indietronica great, Ulrich Schnauss.  There is a release party scheduled on June 30, 2012 in Brooklyn, NY.

Formed in San Francisco in 2008, Slowness is a drone pop trio who produces spiraling sounds of layered guitars coupled with driving bass and drums.  They toured throughout the United States for their LP release Hopeless but Otherwise.  Their contribution of Race to Mars covers Side B of this 7 inch split.

The Seven Inch Revolution box set will be releasing the first edition after the first four 7 inches have been released.  The Dead Leaf Echo & Slowness 7 inch is part of one half of this release.  To order: http://www.greenfuserecords.com/Green_Fuse_Records/NEWS/Entries/2012/5/15_Dead_Leaf_Echo___Slowness_Split_7_Inch.html

The Dead Mantra is a group of young, talented musicians whose music and persona took off like wild fire since their debut in 2010.  They’ve stood out by playing upbeat hard rock sounds that are laced with fuzzed out guitars with passionate vocals.  They play with the energy and vigor you would expect from a young Parisian band!

Dead Horse One is a soulful psyche revivalist band whose smooth melodies are well composed and executed.  Dead Horse One is also a prominent French psyche band that came together in 2011 to share their tonally mature and classic psyche rock and shoegaze aesthetics with the world!
